Australia

Oh hey, remember us? Apologies for the long delay between posts but we are back and in action! On March 25th we flew into Australia and spent a quiet week at a hostel doing a Work Away. For those who aren’t familiar, Work Away is a work exchange where you do anywhere from 3-5 hours of work per day in exchange for lodging and meals. We spent a week at a hostel in Gladstone, a small town on the northeast coast.

After coming from New Zealand where we were in a different town every night, it was nice to finally slow it down and stay in one place. Our jobs included doing room turn downs, cleaning bathrooms, and Taylor got to do some art projects! We also got to meet people from all over the world, which is always a bonus.

On our last day we went for a hike up Mount Larcom, about a 20 minute drive from the hostel. It was nice to get back out in nature again (even if we saw a five inch long spider that made our skin crawl, oh and a huge red snake, and another animal that we have yet to identify…) the great outdoors, am I right!?

Hazey views from the top:

Taylor almost at the summit…feeling 90% proud and still 10% scared of being bit by a deadly animal:

Tristan feeling victorious (and also holding strong to the peace sign):

The next morning we picked up a car and headed north to the Whitsundays, an area known for some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. And just like that, we were back on the road, on to the next adventure.

We’ll tell you all about the Whitsundays in a separate post, so stay tuned!

With love, from down undah,

-T&T

Also! Fun fact: instead of paying for a rental car, we did a “car transfer”. A car transfer is the process of moving a rental car from one city to another city for the rental company (based on their needs and timelines) and all you have to pay for is gas. You just have to sign up on the website. It’s a wonderful (and cheap) mode of transportation, especially if you can have a flexible schedule like us.
